Hip Pocket Rides

There have been questions from members wondering what a "Hip Pocket Ride" is.

A Hip Pocket Ride is a ride which as been set up by a member, a road captain, or an officer which is not classified as a sanctioned Chapter Event. As many of you know, there are many riding events all year long with the chapter. Chapter Riding Events and other Chapter Events are shown on our calendar in ORANGE. Whether you are logged into the website or not, you are able to see Chapter events.

Hip Pocket Rides are not considered Chapter Events. These routes are not approved by the chapter, most likely have not been pre-ridden, do not have Road Captains operating in an official capacity....etc. These rides are just "informal" rides. So why on earth do we even have Hip Pocket Rides? Here are a few Reasons:

  • Weather is poor and there is potential for unsafe riding conditions to our members.
  • Chapter member wants to just have an informal ride without certain restrictions
  • Ride is to a non-chapter event (ie Oyster Run, Sun-n-Surf)
  • Ride was planned quickly and there was not time for entire ride approval process to take place
  • Due to schedules, the chapter is unable to provide enough road captains for the ride

Hip Pocket Rides to not show up on the public Calendar. In order to see any Hip Pocket Rides, you must be a member of the chapter and log into the website. Once you are logged into the website you will look for events which are "Green". Green Events are events for our members which are not necessarily Chapter Events. Most of these events shown in green will be rides. Some may be Long Distance Rides (LDRs) and others will be regular type rides put on by our one of our members.

If you are interested in having a Hip Pocket Ride on the Calendar, please use our Contact Page and email our Webmaster. Our webmaster can make the determination on whether or not the ride can be placed on the calendar or not.

Please Note: Not all Hip Pocket Rides requested will make it to the calendar. If you have an informal ride which may not make it on the calendar, please at least make members aware of it on our Discussion Board.
